Like any manufacturing industry, making ready-to-wear apparel or garment products also results in “wastes”. This is our first blog post and what could be a better topic to write on than the creative works we do with our wastes at our tailoring center. 🙂
why wastes?
Apparel manufacturing process involves many steps including Product Design, Fabric Selection and Inspection, Cutting, Bundling, Sewing, Pressing or Folding, QC etc. When we receive the fabrics, they come in bundles of continues cloth. We then have to cut out the fabric in desired shapes and sizes. Although we take utmost care to cut the fabric in a way that results in minimum waste, it is impossible to have zero waste.
upcycle
As a responsible business, we are committed to protecting the environment and leave as little carbon footprint as possible. Upcycling, also known as creative reuse, is the process of converting waste materials into new and often beautiful products. Upcyle is better than Recycle because recycle consumes a lot of energy and resources to collect, sort and process.
Upcycling is a great way to reuse wastes and reduce our footprint on the environment.
Although it is impossible to reuse 100% of the wastes, we try to achieve at least 80% reuse of all our wastes.
what we do with our wastes
So, back to the “million dollar question” – What do we do with our wastes? Here’s the answer – We Sort them, Stitch them and Make them into beautiful accessories. In other words, we upcycle them. 🙂
1) Sort them
First all the pieces of fabrics are put together and then we sort them according to fabric print and size. This takes about 3 hours to sort a week’s waste.
2) Stitch them
Individual pieces of fabrics are then stitched together to form a bigger fabric.
3) Make them
The fabric is then cut and stitched by our highly skilled cutters and tailors to make beautiful accessories.
Here are a few things that we made today from yesterday’s waste. 🙂
